C10: Design Thinking & Industrial Design

Aim:
To turn a common single-use item into a sustainable, reusable design.

Requirements:

  • Pen and paper

  • Sketching materials (optional: color pencils, markers)

  • Sample disposable item (plastic spoon, cup, wrapper, etc.)

Steps:

  1. Pick a disposable item you use often (e.g., straw, water bottle, paper plate).

  2. Think about what happens to it after one use.

  3. Brainstorm a reusable version: What materials can be better? What design changes will help?

  4. Sketch your redesigned product.

  5. Write down the benefits of your new design—for people and the planet.

  6. Share your idea with classmates or in your group.

Working:

This activity helps students understand the real-world impact of their design choices and encourages responsible, long-term thinking.
