C5: Electronics for Kids

Aim:
To identify and understand the parts of a switchboard through a hands-on, guided demonstration.

Materials Required:

  • A safe demo model of a switchboard

  • Labels or stickers to mark components

  • Teacher or adult supervision

Steps:

  1. Under the guidance of a teacher or adult, open the demo switchboard carefully.

  2. Observe and identify each component:

    • Switch

    • Socket

    • Fuse

    • Wires

  3. Use labels or stickers to name each part on the model.

  4. Follow the path of the wires to understand how they are connected to switches and sockets.

  5. Discuss how each part works and why it is important.

Working of a Switchboard:

  • The switch controls whether current flows to a device.

  • The socket provides a connection point for plugging in devices.

  • The fuse acts like a safety gate — if too much current flows, it stops the circuit to avoid damage.

  • The wires carry current to and from all the parts, connecting them to the main power line.

All parts work together to ensure that electricity is delivered safely and effectively to your room’s appliances.
