C5: Electronics for Kids

Aim:
To investigate why a battery-operated toy might not be working and learn to identify simple problems.

Materials Required:

  • A battery-operated toy

  • New batteries (same size as required)

  • Screwdriver (used only with adult supervision)

Steps:

  1. Examine the toy and check if there is a battery compartment.

  2. Ask an adult to help you open the battery cover using a screwdriver if needed.

  3. Check the batteries:

    • Are they placed in the correct direction (+ and -)?

    • Are they old or corroded?

  4. Replace with fresh batteries and close the cover securely.

  5. Test the ON/OFF switch to see if the toy works.

  6. If it still doesn’t work, observe for broken wires, loose parts, or damaged switches
