Aim:
To learn and practice basic drone control movements using a simulator, toy drone, or gesture-based exercises.
Requirements:
-
Toy drone (nano or micro drone) or
-
Drone simulator app (e.g., DroneBlocks, Drone Simulator, DJI Virtual Flight)
-
Smartphone or tablet
-
Open classroom space or hallway
-
Safety cones, chalk marks, or paper targets
Steps:
Step 1: Understand Controls
-
Study the drone controller or app layout.
-
Identify which stick controls throttle and yaw, and which one controls pitch and roll.
-
Practice moving each control slowly — no sudden pushes!
Step 2: Gesture Practice (No Drone Needed)
-
Use your hands to mimic drone movement:
-
Raise both hands upward = take off (up)
-
Lower hands = land (down)
-
Move one hand forward = pitch forward
-
Move to the side = roll left/right
-
Twist wrists = yaw (turn)
-
-
Say each motion aloud while practicing with classmates — it helps in remembering.
Step 3: Simulator Training (Digital Mode)
-
Open a drone simulator app.
-
Follow on-screen training missions (take-off, hover, turn, land).
-
Try maintaining a steady hover for 10 seconds — that’s a key pilot skill!
-
Record your best stable flight time.
Step 4: Real Practice (With Toy Drone, if available)
-
Place safety cones or paper circles on the floor as flight markers.
-
Under teacher supervision:
-
Take off slowly.
-
Hover at about half a meter height.
-
Move forward to the first cone, then back to the start.
-
Try turning left and right using yaw control.
-
Land gently at the starting point.
-
-
Repeat the flight pattern 2–3 times for confidence.
Step 5: Record and Reflect
Write in your notebook:
-
Which movement was easiest?
-
Which was hardest to control?
How long did you hover without losing balance?
