Aim:
To learn how to check a circuit using a digital multimeter.
Requirements:
- Digital multimeter
- Simple LED circuit (battery, switch, LED, wires)
- Safety gloves (optional for beginners)
Working:
Step 1: Continuity Test of the Multimeter
- Turn the multimeter dial to continuity mode (diode/beep symbol).
- Touch the red and black probes together.
- You should hear a beep or see a small reading – this confirms the meter is working.
Step 2: Check Wire Connections
- Place probes on two ends of a wire or joint.
- If connected properly → beep sound.
- If broken → no beep.
Step 3: Test the Battery Voltage
- Switch dial to DC Voltage (V— symbol).
- Place red probe on + terminal, black probe on – terminal of the battery.
- The display should show ~1.5V (for AA battery) or 9V (for 9V battery).
Step 4: Check the LED Circuit
- With switch ON, measure voltage across the LED.
- If voltage is correct (~2V for red LED), LED should glow.
If not, check continuity to find the fault.
