C7: Drone Technology – Assembly Focus

Let’s break down the four main forces that keep drones in the air.

Force

Direction

What It Does

Example in Drone Flight

Lift

Upward

Helps the drone rise.

Propellers push air down, air pushes drone up.

Weight (Gravity)

Downward

Pulls the drone to the ground.

Keeps it from floating away.

Thrust

Forward

Moves the drone ahead.

Motors spin propellers faster.

Drag

Backward

Slows the drone down.

Air resistance acts opposite to thrust.

When Lift = Weight, the drone hovers.
When Lift > Weight, it goes up.
When Thrust > Drag, it moves forward.
