C9: Design Thinking & Industrial Design

Aim:
To improve both the appearance and usability of a product.

Requirements:

  • A simple consumer product (e.g., spoon, stapler, water bottle)

  • Sketchpad and pen/pencil

Steps:

  1. Choose a basic product you use daily.

  2. Observe its current design—shape, material, ease of use.

  3. Identify what works well and what could be improved.

  4. Sketch a new version with changes that improve both looks and function.

Working of the Activity
Great design isn’t just about beauty. It should solve a problem, feel good to use, and fit the user’s lifestyle. This activity helps you think like an industrial designer.
