Intro to IoT (Internet of Things)

The real power of the Internet of Things (IoT) comes from sensors.
A device becomes smart not just because it connects to the internet, but because it can sense the environment and take action.

  • A temperature sensor tells us if the room is too hot or cold.

  • A soil moisture sensor tells us if the soil in a plant pot is too dry.

  • A motion sensor can detect if someone enters a room.

Once sensors collect data, they send it to an IoT dashboard where people can monitor it. The system can also act automatically — for example, if soil is dry, the pump switches ON.

Thus, sensors give IoT its eyes, ears, and skin to feel the world around it.
